Discover the canals of this amazing city.
We head south to the district of Aveiro, where we'll discover this remarkable city, rich in history and home to a unique collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture, unmatched anywhere else in Portugal. Our visit begins at Aveiro Cathedral, an impressive structure originally built in the 15th century. We'll also enjoy a traditional boat ride through the city's picturesque canals. Known as the “Venice of Portugal,” Aveiro beautifully blends land and water, with the Ria winding through some of the city's most charming neighborhoods — including Beira-Mar, Paraíso, Alboi, and Fonte Nova. Along the way, we'll admire elegant Art Nouveau façades, industrial landmarks, historic sites, and contemporary residential buildings. Next, we travel to Ílhavo and the iconic Costa Nova beach, famous for its colorful striped houses known as palheiros. Once simple warehouses for fishing equipment, these vibrant structures have been transformed into charming seaside retreats — a signature sight along the Portuguese coast.
