Matosinhos Food Experience

The Food Tour Experience is an opportunity to learn about the ancient Portuguese practice of preserving fish. During the tour, we will explore the Matosinhos Municipal Market, which provides a wide range of products, including fresh fish and seafood, fruits, vegetables, and other food items. The market, which has been open since the first half of the 20th century, is a Property of Public Interest. It has managed to retain its original function and combines the tradition of old markets with the architectural beauty of the space. The Matosinhos Market is a commercial hub that caters to different types of businesses. It has an incubation space that is dedicated to design companies, while the remaining stores offer a variety of products and services, such as ready-to-wear clothes, shoe stores, cafés, grocery stores, organic stores, kiosks, travel literature, florists, and restaurants. We will also visit the Portugal Norte canning factory, which is a family tradition that started in 1912. Over the years, the company has managed to blend tradition and innovation to produce canned fish of the highest quality. The production of the preserves can be observed on the deck, with a 360° view of the area where the products that are the essence of Portuguese tradition are handmade. The tour lasts for around 45 minutes and includes a delightful tasting experience at the end. At the end of the tour, we will either return to the starting point or provide a drop-off service to a location of your choice, which should be arranged with your guide beforehand.
